The first 27 lines of a system log from one boot as plain text: month, day, time, host, program name and process ID, then the message, every line the same color.
Logfile
The same log with the Logfile syntax: dates in italics, times in bold, each program name in its own color, process IDs in brackets, and words such as Successfully, failed, and starting, an address, and a version number picked out.

Unix logs repeat the same prefixes on every line, and that noise drowns out the messages. This grammar picks out timestamps, hosts, processes, and PIDs so the actual message stands out.

It also recognizes key=value pairs, quoted values, and IP addresses inside the message body.
